Two people have died in separate crashes in counties Laois and Donegal.

A 26-year-old man was killed when his car crashed and caught fire early this morning, while a man in his 60s was knocked down in Co Donegal last night.

Just before 8.20am today, a car travelling southbound on the M7 crashed north of Portlaoise, just after junction 17 Killenard/Mountmellick. The car caught fire and a 26-year-old man inside died.

The scene is being examined and diversions are in place.

Meanwhile, Donegal gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a 60-year-old man was killed when he was knocked down near Milford after 8pm last night.

There has also been another crash in Donegal this morning. Two vehicles collided at the Slab Road junction at Burt shortly before 10am.

Roads across the county are in a dangerous condition following overnight falls of snow and freezing conditions and motorists are being asked to exercise extreme caution.
