Irish man 'critical' following Netherlands assault

A 33-year-old Irish man is in a critical condition in hospital in the Netherlands after being attacked and beaten.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is offering consular assistance to the family of Niall Coyle from Co Roscommon.

Mr Coyle was attacked last Tuesday after an apparent confrontation at a late night restaurant near Rotterdam.

The hospital is expected to make an announcement on his condition this afternoon.
