The heads of seven Irish universities will be asked today to explain how they spend student registration fees.

The Oireachtas Committee on Education and Science is examining claims that some colleges are not funding student services with the fees, as required by law.

Committee members also want to hear what provisions are being made for students who have not paid their fees due to delays with the third-level grant.
