Nervous moments lie ahead for students from across the country as final judging for the 2010 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition gets underway today.

Twelve months ago farmers sons John D O’Callaghan and Liam McCarthy, took the winner's trophy and went on to win first prize at the EU Young Scientist Contest in Paris, France.

The project, entitled 'The Development of a Convenient Test Method for Somatic Cell Count and its Importance in Milk Production' was given high praise when it won in January, most notably for its simplicity and commercial viability.

The 2010 winner will be announced shortly after 7pm this evening.
