The British Treasury announced today that Iris Robinson had been appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Three Hundreds of Chiltern - the formal process undertaken to quit as an MP.

Democratic Unionist Party sources disclosed at the weekend that she was resigning from the Commons.

They indicated that the party would not be seeking a by-election to replace her before the general election, expected to be held in May.
