Efforts to secure voting rights for 16-year-olds will continue before an Oireachtas committee today.

Student groups will make submissions before the Joint Committee on the Constitution as hearings continue into reform of the electoral system.

The National Youth Council says Ireland should join Austria in lowering the voting age to 16 in order to re-engage young people with politics. The council has also called for online voting and registration to be introduced.
