Gardaí probe death of elderly woman in Cork

Gardaí are investigating the death of a 68-year-old woman at a house in Co Cork.

Officers found her body at a house in Tower in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí made the discovery when they gained entry to the woman's house in Primrose Hill in Tower at around 3am.

Concerned neighbours raised the alarm after the woman had not been seen for several days.

The area has been cordoned off and a team of technical experts are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster has also carried out a preliminary examination of the body, which is due to be removed to Cork University Hospital shortly for a post mortem.

Gardaí said the results of that examination will determine the next step in their investigation.
