Man arrested after Dublin explosives find

A man has been arrested after a small quantity of high-grade commercial explosives was found at an apartment in Dublin's Dorset St.

Residents from nearby buildings had to be evacuated and Dorset St was closed both ways as Army Bomb Disposal Experts were called to the scene.

The man, aged in his 40s and believed to be from Slovakia, is being questioned at Mountjoy Garda Station.

He was being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State 1939.

"The scene at the corner of Gardiner St and Dorset St is now clear," said Commandant Gavin Young.

"The army bomb disposal team have left… they have taken away a very small quantity of explosives."

Cmdt Young said the explosives were not primed to detonate but they were "high-grade".

The recovered explosives were passed onto gardaí for investigation.

No controlled explosion was carried out and the scene is now safe.
