Sub-zero temperatures still affecting travel

Roads remain in a treacherous condition this afternoon - with sub zero temperatures in many parts of the country.

Met Éireann is warning the severe cold snap will continue for at least another week.

Fresh snow falls and icy conditions are forecast for tonight as temperatures drop to at least minus 5 degrees.

Nicola Hudson from AA Roadwatch said motorists must continue to drive with extreme care.

"It's quite icy and treacherous in places," she said.

"Road temperatures are still well below zero in a number of places, especially in the east and the midlands."

She advised drivers not to be complacent as though roads may appear in better condition than they have in recent days, care was still needed on secondary roads especially in the Dublin, Meath or Kildare areas.

"Road temperatures are especially low around Monaghan and Cavan as well."
