Cardinal Daly to lie in state today

Former head of the Catholic Church in Ireland Dr Cahal Daly will lie in state today at a Belfast cathedral. The retired Cardinal will be buried in Armagh on Tuesday.

St Peter's Cathedral is closely linked with Cardinal Daly's career; he was based in west Belfast for much of his career.

His remains will arrive at St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh on Sunday at 5.30pm.

The funeral Mass will be at noon on Tuesday and he will be buried in the Cathedral grounds beside his three immediate predecessors; cardinals O'Fiach, Conway and d'Alton.

Cardinal Daly was Archbishop of Armagh and Catholic Primate of all Ireland from 1990 until 1996.
