New IFA head 'faces challenging year'

The new president of the Irish Farmers Association faces a challenging year, according to the editor of the Farmers Journal.

Kilkenny farmer John Bryan was elected with 56% of the vote at a meeting in Dublin last night.

The former garda who runs a farm in Inistioge will take over office from outgoing president Padraig Walshe in January.

Matt Dempsey from the Farmers Journal said Bryan had a busy year ahead, with falling farm incomes top of the agenda.
