New codeine guidelines could lead to prosecutions
Pharmacists could be struck off or prosecuted if they don't comply with new guidelines on the sale of codeine.
The drug is found cough medicines and pain-killers sold over the counter in pharmacies.
The draft guidelines were developed in response to a growing concern over the codeine abuse.
Chief Executive of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland Ambrose McLoughlin said they will clamp down on non-compliance.
