Motorists warned to take care in snowy conditions

Motorists are this morning being warned about the hazards the cold snap brings with it.

Conditions are treacherous around the country this morning, with snow and ice set to linger through the day and later into the week.

In some counties, Gardaí are advising people not to take to the roads at all unless they really have to.

Most roads are below freezing point - the coldest is in Dungarvan, County Waterford, at minus five degrees.

The cold snap across western Europe and the east coast of the United States has spelled havoc for air passengers too.
