Clare County Council lifts four-year drinking water alert

A four-year-old drinking water alert affecting some 30,000 residents of Co. Clare has finally been lifted.

The precautionary boil water notice had been in place for Ennis town and surrounding areas such as Clarecastle, Crusheen and Drumcliff, since May 2005.

It has now been ended after the introduction of a new water treatment plant for Ennis.

Welcoming the development Clare County Manager Tom Coughlan, thanked the people of Ennis and surrounding areas for their "patience, co-operation and assistance".
