Man jailed on firearms charges
A 25-year-old father of one, who pleaded guilty to having firearms and ammunition was jailed for three and a half years by the Special Criminal Court today.
Two revolvers, a stun gun and 22 rounds of ammunition were seized when gardaí raided the home of Darren Mooney at Landen Road in Dublin’s Ballyfermot on June 6 last.
The court heard how the weapons and ammunition were found at various locations throughout the property.
Detective Sergeant Pat O’Malley from the Special Detective Unit at Harcourt Square, said a transformer box was recovered from a Hiace van parked outside Mooney’s home. A search of the box revealed an Iver Johnson .32 calibre revolver and seven rounds of ammunition.
A second transformer box was located in a shed at the back of the house, containing a Smith and Wesson .38 calibre revolver and 10 rounds of ammunition.
A stun gun was seized during a search of the young man’s bedroom.
