Taoiseach to visit flood-hit areas in midlands
The Taoiseach Brian Cowen is to visit flood-hit areas in Westmeath and County Offaly today to meet with officials and the victims of flooding.
The ESB released more water from the Parteen weir last night affecting the Midlands and Shannon region.
Water levels on the Shannon have now reached record highs.
The Irish Red Cross has been assisting flood victims and has appealed for donations from the public.
Speaking ahead of his visit to the Midlands today the Taoiseach said hundreds of people have so far been affected by the flood crisis.
