Two quizzed over failed 'tiger' robbery

Two men were being questioned tonight over a failed tiger-kidnap robbery which targeted a Kilkenny All-Ireland hurler.

The pair, aged 28 and 36, can be held for seven days under tough crime laws following their arrest in Dublin yesterday.

Former hurling star Adrian Ronan, his wife and three children were taken hostage after an armed gang broke into their home at dawn.

The father-of-three was ordered to the Bank of Ireland in Kilkenny, where he works, and told to demand €3m cash.

The plot fell apart when the gang of at least three armed and masked men became spooked and did not show up at a drop-off point.

The arrested men were taken to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
