Pair held in connection with soldier shootings in North

A man and a woman were arrested today by police investigating the Real IRA murders of two soldiers outside an Army barracks in the North earlier this year.

The man (aged 39) was detained in Coalisland, east Tyrone, and the woman (aged 55) was held in west Belfast.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar (aged 21) from London, and Mark Quinsey (aged 23) from Birmingham, were shot dead outside the Massereene Barracks in Antrim last March.

Police said the two held today were arrested during an ongoing search operation. They are being questioned by detectives at Antrim.

One man has already been charged with the murders of the two soldiers. Colin Duffy (aged 41) a leading republican from Forest Glade, Lurgan, Co Armagh, denies the accusations.
