Soldier critical after Youghal pub assault
A young soldier remains in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital after being attacked in Youghal over the weekend.
Graham Gillman was assaulted in a pub in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 23-year-old is based at Collins Barracks in Cork and has served with the Irish UN mission in Chad.
Doctors were forced to carry out emergency brain surgery yesterday in an attempt to stabilise his condition.
Superintendant Flor Horan, who is leading the Garda investigation into the incident, said gardaí had carried out a detailed examination of the Usual Place premises on the town's South Main St, especially the smoking room where the assault is alleged to have taken place.
