EU to choose new president next week
European Union leaders will choose the group's first president at a working dinner in Brussels next Thursday.
Sweden's Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt made the announcement today and that it is almost certain to be a sitting or former head of government.
Belgium's Prime Minister is thought to be the front runner for the job, while former Taoiseach John Bruton is also interested.
Former favourite Tony Blair's chances are said to have weakened in recent weeks.
