Concern launches 2009 Christmas fast
Concern Worldwide has launched its 40th annual Christmas Fast to raise money for the poorest people in the developing world.
The fast will take place on Thursday, December 3, and aims to raise more than €1m.
More than 250,000 people have taken part in the annual event to date.
Concern is hoping thousands more will take part this year but fast coordinator Natalie McDermot is expecting the recession to have an impact.
"I'm sure it will, as it will with everybody - all we can do is ask everybody to give what they can to Concern," she said.
"The need is so great overseas...I know we're struggling here, but it's even worse for people in places like Kenya. We understand that not everybody will be able to give as much this year. Just taking part and supporting the campaign would be greatly appreciated."
