An investigation is underway after a bank worker's family were kidnapped from their home in Lucan in Dublin overnight.

At about 1am this morning, a number of armed and masked men forced their way into the house in Johnsbridge estate.

A husband and wife and their two children, aged six and three, were taken hostage.

At about 6am this morning, the husband and boy and girl, were taken from the house in a blue Opel van, while the wife was forced to go to the bank where she works in Inchicore in Dublin 8.

The woman left the bank around midday and drove her car, which contained a quantity of cash, to Liffey Gael’s GAA club in Inchicore, where she left it.

The alarm was raised and the woman's husband and the two children were found unharmed at Toghers Industrial Estate outside Naas, Co Kildare.
