Taoiseach attends prayer service for crash pilots

The Taoiseach and the Minister for Defence were among around 400 people who attended a prayer service at Baldonnel last night for the two Air Corps pilots who died in a plane crash earlier this week.

The service was held as the bodies of the two men were transported to Air Corps headquarters.

Thirty-two-year-old captain Derek Furniss, from Rathfarnham in Dublin, and 22-year-old cadet David Jevens, from Glynn in Co Wexford, died when their plane crashed on the Galway-Mayo border on Monday night.

They were taking part in a training exercise in the area using a two-seater aircraft.

Investigations are continuing at the site in an effort to determine the cause of the crash.
