Gardaí have arrested a third man in connection with a fatal road accident near Limerick city last night.

Gardaí have arrested a third man in connection with a fatal road accident near Limerick city last night.

A 53-year-old man died after the car he was driving collided with a jeep on the N24 at Ahabeg just before 8.30pm

A female passenger in the car was also taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The occupants of the jeep fled the scene of the collision.

Gardaí subsequently arrested two men in their 40s who are still being held at Roxboro Road Garda Station this morning.

A 38-year-old man was also detained this morning and is being held at Henry Street Garda Station.
