Fatal Kildare blaze treated as suspicious

Gardaí are treating a fire in Co Kildare, in which an elderly man died, as suspicious.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene at Pairc Mhuire in Newbridge at about 6am this morning.

Three people who were in the house at the time of the fire were rushed to Naas General Hospital.

One of them - an 81-year-old man - died from his injuries.

The two others - a man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s - were not seriously injured.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.
