Liver damage teenager makes unexpected recovery

A Co Down teenager who was given just three weeks to live after a binge-drinking session is due to return to Belfast today after making an unexpected recovery.

Nineteen-year-old Gareth Anderson made headlines several weeks ago when he was told he would not be eligible for a liver transplant until he had been drink-free for six months.

He caused serious damage to his liver during a binge-drinking session and was told he might only live for three weeks.

However, his liver has now begun regenerating after six weeks of intensive treatment at a London hospital and his family says he is on the road to recovery.
