Burton: UK Independence Party are 'extreme right-wingers'

Labour TD Joan Burton has expressed her anger at being quoted in anti-Lisbon material from the UK Independence Party.

She has branded UKIP as "extreme right-wingers" who are distributing "a deceitful and dishonest brochure".

Deputy Burton says the pamphlet inaccurately links her concerns about NAMA with the legal guarantees secured by the Government after the No vote last year.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has called for a debate on the details of the Lisbon Treaty.

Gerry Adams has said the treaty is not about membership of the EU and claimed the Government was trying the scare the electorate into voting Yes.

The party has launched an 'Alternative Guide to the Lisbon Treaty' which sets out five reasons to vote NO.

It claims the treaty would reduce Irish power in the EU, and will make the economic crisis even worse.

Gerry Adams has also dismissed the Government's assurances on neutrality.

Meanwhile Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has described a poster claim that the Lisbon Treaty could see the minimum wage cut to €1.84 as "a bare-faced lie".

He made the comments as former Polish President Lech Walesa joined the party's campaign for a Yes vote in next month's referendum.

Enda Kenny said the former Polish president's presence in the campaign was a reminder that Ireland's decision will affect half a billion people in across the 27 member states.

Mr Kenny said claims about workers' rights are a major issue in the debate.
