Luas and bus in collision in Dublin city centre
Several people are thought to be injured after a Luas tram and a bus were in collision in a busy area of Dublin city centre at around 3pm today.
At least 16 people including the Luas driver, who had to be cut from the wreckage, have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene.
The extent of injuries to passengers are not known but a number were described as walking wounded.
The incident occurred at the junction of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street.
Following the crash, Luas Red Line services are only running between Tallaght and Smithfield until further notice.
O'Connell Street northbound and the right lane southbound have also been closed, leading to major traffic congestion.
Dublin Bus has launched an investigation into the accident.
The bus was the no.16 on its way to Santry in the north of the city.
