SDLP: Stormont devolution at 'a stalemate'

The SDLP is warning that devolution is stalemated and going nowhere, as the Stormont assembly reconvenes after the summer break.

The party says the divisions between the DUP and Sinn Féin are so deep, that they are stifling any forward movement on the recession, on education and on policing and justice.

It is urging the two larger parties at Stormont to end their bickering and get policing and justice devolved as soon as possible.

Party policing spokesman, Alex Attwood, said it was "long past time that Stormont took over the reins on these issues".
