EU's Rasmussen to canvass for Yes to Lisbon

An EU politician who worked to secure greater regulation of financial markets long before the present crisis, is to canvass for a Yes vote to the Lisbon Treaty in Dublin today.

The President of the Party of European Socialists, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen will be joining the Labour leader Eamon Gilmore on the campaign trail.

Mr Rasmussen's report on binding rules for all financial players, as well as greater transparency and accountability, was passed by the European Parliament last year.

Meanwhile, Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa has said there has been a significant swing to the Yes side in the light of the current crisis.
