Dramatic increase in immigrants from new EU member states

The number of people from the European Union's new member states living here increased 20-fold between 2002 and 2008.

According to a new book on labour migration being launched by the ESRI, the figure jumped from 10,000 to 200,000 in the eight-year period.

Of the immigrants living here, 80% were employed.

However they earned about 30% less than Irish workers with the same qualifications.
