Martin marks East Timor anniversary
Today marks the 10th year anniversary of independence in Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor.
More than three quarters of the Timorese people voted for an end to Indonesia's occupation and colonisation in a referendum a decade ago today, before it gained international recognition as an independent state in 2002.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs has released a statement paying tribute to all of those who dedicated themselves to securing independence for Timor-Leste.
Micheál Martin has also praised the Irish men and women who joined with other international activists to form the East Timor Solidarity Campaign.
