Report to call for no increase in overall tax burden

The Commission for Taxation is reportedly recommending that the overall household tax burden not be increased any further in this December's budget.

Reports this morning say the body is set to present 250 recommendations to the Government in the coming days.

It will reportedly say that any increased taxes or new stealth charges should be balanced out through reductions in existing taxes such as the income levies introduced in the past year.

This morning's reports say the commission is recommending the introduction of property taxes, carbon taxes and water charges, along with the taxing of child benefit payments and scrapping the tax exemption for artists.

It is also proposing the abolition of the €75,000 income ceiling for the payment of PRSI and the phasing out of tax relief on bin charges and trade union subscriptions.
