Spawell 'open for business' despite pub-workers' protest

Some 70 workers at the Spawell Golf Centre in Tempelogue in Dublin have said they are still open for business, despite a dispute over redundancy arrangements at the centre's pub.

Thirty-two staff at the centre's bar and restaurant are in dispute with their employers CB Taverns over that company's plans to immediately close those parts of the centre.

Staff at the Spawell's other businesses - which include a golf range and pitch and putt course - say they are continuing to trade, but that the perception that they are closed "is greatly affecting all of our businesses".

A spokeswoman for the businesses said: "As tenants here at Spawell we very much regret the position of our colleagues…(but we) are not affected by the closure of the pub and will not be in the future."
