Phoenix Park body identified

Gardaí in Dublin have identified a woman who was found dead in the Phoenix Park 11 days ago.

They say they will not be releasing the woman's name at this stage but have revealed that she is a 50-year-old from Romania.

The deceased was found by passers-by in a wooded part of the Phoenix Park on August 5 with multiple stab wounds.

Earlier this week DNA samples from a family in Romania were sent to the Garda Forensic Science Laboratory leading to the positive identification of the woman.

Gardaí say she is from the Timisoara area in the west of the country.

They are not releasing her name at this stage.

It is understood she was homeless, was the mother of two adult children and had been living in Ireland for a number of years

A garda investigation into the murder is continuing however no arrests have yet been made.
