The county of Meath experienced the largest increase in people signing on the dole last month, according to a geographical breakdown of the latest Live Register figures from the CSO.

The statistics agency revealed last week that an extra 17,000 people had signed on the register last month, an increase of more than 4%.

Increases were recorded in all counties, with the numbers signing on in Co Meath up 5.4%.

Wexford experienced the smallest increase, registering a rate of 2.3%.

During the past year, the mid-east region has seen its Live Register figures increase by 99%, while the south-east has experienced the smallest increase of 71%.

In response to the news, FÁS North East has organised a series of information events highlighting the increased number of training, education and upskilling options available to jobseekers who wish to explore their career options.

The first Open Day will take place in the FÁS Employment Services Office, 1-2 Dyer Street, Drogheda on Monday, August 17 from 10am - 4pm, followed by Navan’s FÁS Employment Services Office in Tara Mall, Trimgate Street on Tuesday, August 18.
