Spectator killed during road race
A spectator was killed today at the Armoy road races in Co Antrim.
The spectator wasnamed as 75-year-old Hill McCook Senior. The pensioner was from the Armoy area.
A rider and a second spectator were also injured during the accident on the Dean’s Rise part of the course during the second lap of the final race.
The incident, on the Ballycastle Road, occurred at around 4.30pm.
The PSNI and Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre) are investigating.
Clerk of Course Bill Kennedy said he and Armoy Motorcycle and Road Racing Club are devastated by the news.
“The incident took place during the second lap of the final race of the Armoy Road Race,” said Mr Kennedy.
“A full investigation is being carried out jointly by the PSNI and MCUI [UC].
“Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the family at this sad time.”
The injuries sustained by a rider and second spectator are not believed not to be serious.
