AG considers inquiry into Michael Shine allegations
The Dignity 4 Patients organisation says the Attorney General has asked for the month of August to consider holding an inquiry into the alleged activities of former hospital consultant Michael Shine.
The AG met Health Minister Mary Harney and Justice Minister Dermot Ahern yesterday to discuss the matter.
Dr Shine was acquitted of indecently assaulting six patients during a court case in 2003.
He was struck off the medical register last year following an investigation by the Medical Council.
Dozens of people have since made new allegations against him and Dignity 4 Patients says an independent inquiry would help secure closure for these people.
