Man charged with soldiers' murder due in court

A 44-year-old man is to appear in court today charged with the murders of two soldiers and the attempted murder of six other people at a military base in the North.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar, 21, from Wood Green, and Mark Quinsey, 23, of Birmingham, were shot dead at Massereene Army barracks in March as they waited for a pizza delivery at the gates of the Antrim base.

The man, also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, was arrested in mid-Ulster on Tuesday.

He is to appear in court in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

One man has already been charged with the attack which took place on March 7.

Gunmen from the dissident republican Real IRA opened fire on the soldiers outside the barracks as they collected pizzas.

Those injured in the attack included pizza delivery men.
