Two killed in Down crash

A man and woman were killed today when their car crashed into a parked lorry outside Newry.

The incident happened on the A1 between Newry and Loughbrickland at lunchtime.

The lorry, which was unoccupied, was parked on hard shoulder when the car hit it around 1.30pm.

The man had been driving the car, with the woman in the passenger’s seat.

Police appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Traffic diversions were in place and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
