Electrical contractors to discuss pay recommendation
One of the groups representing electrical contractors in Ireland is due to meet later today to consider its response to the Labour Court's recommendation on electricians' pay.
The court has recommended a phased 4.9% pay rise for electricians, who went on strike last week in protest at their employers' refusal to honour wage agreements.
The TEEU has already accepted the recommendation and has called off the strike, but it has also warned that the action will resume if contractors reject the Labour Court proposals.
The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) is due to meet today to discuss the matter, while the Association of Electrical Contractors Ireland (AECI) also plans to ballot its members on proposals this week.
The situation is being complicated, however, by another organisation called the National Electrical Contractors of Ireland, which is threatening to legally challenge any attempt to impose pay rises.
