Monaghan to lose acute hospital services this month

The HSE has announced that it will be transferring all acute medical services from Monaghan Hospital to Cavan General Hospital from July 22.

The HSE has announced that it will be transferring all acute medical services from Monaghan Hospital to Cavan General Hospital from July 22.

From that date, no further emergency services will be provided in Monaghan, which will operate as a seven-day, 12-hour, minor-injury unit.

The HSE says the move is based on evidence which shows that emergency medicine and surgical services are best provided in high-volume hospitals.

Local campaigners, however, say the transfer will put the lives of people in Monaghan at risk.
