Friends of the Irish Environment has announced that it is issuing legal proceedings against the Minister for the Environment for holding waste at the site of the former Irish Steel plant in Co Cork.

Friends of the Irish Environment has announced that it is issuing legal proceedings against the Minister for the Environment for holding waste at the site of the former Irish Steel plant in Co Cork.

The organisation says anyone holding waste for more than six months must have a licence under Irish law.

It also claims there is serious environmental pollution at the former Irish Steel site on Haulbowline Island.
