Electricians plan strike over wage dispute
The country is facing widespread disruption tomorrow as more than 10,000 electricians vow to go on strike.
It follows the collapse of talks between the TEEU trade union and electrical contractors at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday.
The union is demanding an 11% wage hike for its members, while employers are seeking a 10% pay cut.
Pickets will be placed at a number of major plants and construction sites from tomorrow morning.
Director of Industrial Relations with the Construction Industry Federation Eddie Keenan has described the action as ridiculous.
But Eamon Devoy of the TEEU has accused the contractors of breaking a legally binding agreement on pay.
He said a nationwide strike is the only option left.
