Road conditions improve after Mayo flooding

Road conditions in Co Mayo have improved this morning after several hours of torrential rain yesterday caused flooding in many areas.

Gardaí say there were a number of minor road crashes caused by flooding in the Castlebar and Newport areas.

A man who got trapped in his house at Glenisland was also rescued.

In Galway, meanwhile, a mother and her son had a lucky escape after their house on Gorumna Island was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm yesterday.

The house was extensively damaged, but the occupants were uninjured.

Parts of north Dublin also suffered flooding on Wednesday night after around two weeks of rainfall occurred in the space of just one hour.
