A woman who was beaten in broad daylight has died in hospital a week after the violent assault, gardaí said today.

A woman who was beaten in broad daylight has died in hospital a week after the violent assault, gardaí said today.

The 31-year-old was attacked on Dublin’s Parnell Square East last Thursday sometime between 2pm and 3pm.

It is understood she was rushed to Beaumont Hospital suffering from head injuries.

Gardaí said two people were arrested over the incident.

A 32-year-old man is being quizzed by detectives at Store Street garda station in connection with the death.

He was detained this morning in the Clondalkin area of the city.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday but was released without charge.

Gardaí said a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who was in the Parnell Square East area last Thursday between 2pm and 3pm to contact them.
