National Dairy Council says farmers' livelihoods at risk
The National Dairy Council says the livelihoods of many farmers around the country are at risk if their needs are not addressed.
Thousands of farmers gathered in Luxembourg yesterday to protest against low milk prices, causing traffic jams and pelting EU officials with eggs.
The 100 Irish dairy farmers at the protest claim that they are selling their milk for 7 cents per litre less than it costs to produce.
Head of the NDC, Helen Brophy says that Irish farmers are scared not only of losing their jobs but of losing a whole way of life.
