The Australian police have confirmed that a body recovered from the sea over the weekend is that of an Irish tourist who went missing 11 days ago.

Thirty-one-year-old Niall McDonagh disappeared after going for a walk on a beach in New South Wales on June 12.

His body was found at Brunswick Head on Saturday and a post mortem has since been carried out.

The police say they are not treating his death as suspicious

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to his family, who had travelled to Byron Bay to help in the search operation.
