Farmers protest over incomes

More than 70 farmers will travel to Luxembourg today to demonstrate over dairy farm incomes across the EU.

A delegation headed by Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) President Padraig Walshe will picket the Council of Agriculture Ministers’ meeting to demand immediate action.

The protest follows calls by European Farmers’ Union COPA on the European Commission to solve the dairy market crisis.

Mr Walshe, who will lead the demonstration as president of the COPA, has said the dairy income crisis in Ireland is being replicated right across EU-member states.

An IFA representative from each county will attend the day of action.
