Two held in connection with mob murder

Police today arrested two men in connection with the murder of a Catholic community worker who was kicked to death by a sectarian mob.

A 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old man are being questioned at Antrim police station over the murder of Kevin McDaid, 49, and the serious injury of Damien Fleming, 46.

The two Catholic men were attacked by a Protestant mob in the Heights area of Coleraine, Co Derry, after Rangers beat Celtic to the SPL title last month.

Earlier this week a 20-year-old man being questioned by police about the attack was released on bail pending further inquiries.

A 42-year-old woman arrested by police was also released.

Nine people have been charged in connection with the incident on May 24.
